Your Town Mississippi to host event at Lake

From press reports

Representatives from more than 21 Mississippi communities will convene at Lake Tiak O’Khata in Louisville next week [May 9-11] for an interactive workshop that focuses on community development using basic design and planning principles. Participants will produce designs, ideas and plans for a fictitious Mississippi city called “YourTown.” Over the course of 3 days, planning professionals will lead teams through exercises that address common small town issues such as the impact of a proposed bypass, the revitalization of a struggling downtown, and other typical challenges of many Mississippi communities. Teams will present their work from 9:30-11 a.m. May 11. These presentations will reflect the teams’ overall strategy for implementing proper planning and design principles for “YourTown.” Participants can then take these principles, share them with others in their cities and towns back home, and lead efforts to help their respective communities be stronger and more competitive in today’s economy. The Stennis Institute at Mississippi State University, Mississippi Main Street Association, and Mississippi Development Authority are sponsoring this workshop.
