It’s Elementary by Brandy Blanton

Thank you to Amanda Richardson (Angel’s mom) for her generous donation of school supplies. Throughout the year, teachers and students experience a shortage of classroom supplies such as: pencils, crayons, tissue, antiseptic hand gel, paper, etc… Many times, teachers use their own money to replenish these items. Any donations of these resources would be appreciated- at any time during the year. You can talk with your child’s teacher about needs in their classroom to see how you can help contribute to the educational success of our children.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the cookie dough fundraiser. Cookie dough may be picked up in the school resource room between 8:30 am and 3:00pm on Wednesday, September 26th and 8:30am to 4:30pm on Thursday, September 27th. Prizes are shipped from a different location than the cookie dough, so the prizes will be delivered at a later date. Thank you again for all your support!

A group of eighth graders from Eiland Middle School came and read to K-4 classes on Friday, September 14th. These middle school students are part of a service organization known as PAWS. PAWS stands for “Positive Action and Works of Service.” These students are under the instruction of Eiland Middle School teacher Jenny Vowell. This group does service projects throughout the school year. PAWS members read the book called The Dot to the students and talked to them about making your “mark”. Each PAWS member then partnered with a K-4 student and showed them how to use an I-Pad to make their “mark”. It was an honor to have them come and read to our Pre-K students. When young people come in and read or talk with our students, it can have a profound impact on their own educational performance.

We are still in need of donations for our clothing closet. On a daily basis, children will need to borrow clothing, shoes, or belts – for various reasons. We will take donations of new or slightly used uniforms at any time. Our average children size range is: sizes 5 – 14 in pants; small- large shirts; any size children’s belts; sizes 6-14 in undergarments; shoe and sock sizes 9-4. Our shirts are collared or oxford style shirts- solid colors of maroon, gray, or white. All bottoms (pants, skirts, skorts, and shorts) should be khaki or black. Belts need to be brown or black. Shoes can be any color as long as they do not light up or have wheels. Any and all donations are greatly appreciated.
