Submitted by: Frances Ball Friends of Legion State Park

The quarterly meeting was held on Thursday, September 13, 2012 at Legion Lodge.

There were 31 out of 40 members present. The purpose of the meeting was to update the projects of the Park We have accomplished several goals this year. In May we had the Kids- N-Kats Fishing Rodeo, with 100 children attending. Also in May we had a Tree Identification with Dr. Lila Kelly, MSU Professor in Horiculture, Dr. Jeannie Jones, Professor MSU, Enviromentalist conducted a Bird Walk.

In June we had our Summer Picnic and Membership Drive and we gained several new members. We also placeda Flag Pole ad Flag on the front lawn to honor our Veterans. In addition we celebrated the 75th year of Legion Lodge.

Following these, we moved to the Pavilion for the picnic with approximately 50 people attending The quarterly meeting was a Barb-Q Supper and our special guest were Honorable Senator Giles Ward amd Honorable Michael T. Evans.

They gave us some good reports concerning the commission and pledged their help. Senator Ward serves as Chairman of Wildlife, Fisheries & Parks on the Senator side and Represenative Evans serves on the committee on the Represenative side, so we are blessed to have our own serving there.

The friends of the Park fee is $10, we wlecome new members call 662-773-8323 or 662-773-3664 if interested. The annual pass for the park is $42 or $32 if 65 and older.

Other projects include buying a new stove for the kitchen. We moved dth Gazebo to the Main Road so it can be used for various events such as classes, meetings and picnics and etc.

The big news is that we are getting the Lodge renovated. It has fallen into rel need of repair. The work has actually begun and will include the refinishing of the floors, cleaning the ceiling and beams, reworking the windows, replacing the screen doors and filing the cracks in the floors and walls. It will be an expensive repair. We are most grateful to get this help from the Wildlife Fishiers and Park Commission. Our next event will be the Trimming of the Trees on December 1, 2012.

We have had a good year and we look forward to a good year in 2013.
