One dies in car accident; two others injured

A late night car accident Saturday, Oct. 20 took the life of one Winston County resident and put two others in the hospital.

37-year-old James William McCleod of Louisville who was a passenger in the back seat was killed after the truck ran off a roadway into a ditch. (See full obituary page 3).

The accident happened early Saturday on Oktoc Road near Windy Ridge Road with authorities notified of the accident at 12:14 a.m.

The truck’s other two occupants, Johnny Derek Eaves, 37, of Louisville, and Felicia Dawn Hunt, 28, of Louisville, are in stable condition at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. Eaves was airlifted to NMMC, and Hunt was rushed to OCH Regional Medical Center before being transported via ambulance to NMMC

County Fire Services Coordinator Kirk Rosenhan said Oktoc/District 5 Fire Department arrived at the scene first after the accident was reported. With the assistance of Starkville Fire Department, hydraulic rescue tools were used to extricate Eaves and Hunt from the vehicle.

The Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Department is continuing its investigation into the accident to determine cause and other factors. Responders from Mississippi Highway Patrol, East Oktibbeha County Fire Department and Starkville Police Department also assisted at the scene.
