ECCC recognized for growth, academic success

East Central Community College in Decatur is considered one of the fastest growing community colleges in the nation, according to the November 26, 2012, issue of Community College Week!

East Central is ranked sixth among community colleges with enrollments from 2,500 to 4,999, as stated in the report, which listed the top 50 community colleges in each enrollment category.

The College earned the recognition due to a 14 percent enrollment increase from 2010 (2,675) to 2011 (3,049).

“We want East Central Community College to be recognized nationally as a premier community college and locally as the preferred gateway to higher education and training for residents of east central Mississippi, due to our focus on students and their success and our commitment to communities and their development,” said ECCC President Dr. Billy W. Stewart.

Dr. Stewart also noted the College’s academic success as indicated by the most recent report from Mississippi’s Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL). The report stated EC students who transferred to the state’s public four-year institutions achieved the highest grade point average (3.18) compared to transfer students from the state’s other two-year colleges.

“Excellence is what we are all about at East Central Community College,” said Dr. Stewart. “We have an outstanding faculty and staff who are committed to the success of our students and helping them achieve their educational goals. We invite students of all ages to join the East Central family as we continue to strive for excellence in all we do.”
