Hearing draws crowd

From staff and press reports

The proposed rental property ordinance hearing held January 15 at 5 p.m. packed the city hall including the meeting room and entrance way

Rental property owners along with other citizens expressed their concern over the proposed ordinance and the inspection of property along with the definition of what codes would be enforced on each property.

Following an almost hour long question and answer period of the ordinance Mayor Will Hill noted that due to the overflow crowd and the need to hold a regular business meeting that another public hearing would be set to discuss the ordinance and any revisions to the code prior to any action taken on the item.

Several property owners expressed concern about the $15 inspection fee and yearly registration requirement. There would be no fee for registration but anyone failing to register could be fined. The one time $15 inspection fee would be done yearly or when electric and water were turned on at the residence.
