Banquet honors those who give back to community

The Winston County Chamber of Commerce presented eight awards to
members of the chamber and Winston County community at its annual
Chamber Awards Celebration and Dinner on Thursday, March 7.

“The annual awards banquet is a time for the chamber to recognize its
members and the county’s citizens for their contributions to making
the Winston County community an even better place to live and work,”
Chamber of Commerce director Linda Skelton said.

2012 Lifetime
Achievement Award
Senator Giles Ward had the honor of presenting the 2012 Leadership
Lifetime Achievement Award to Larry and Barbara Howell. The Howell’s
were recognized for the couple’s lifetime worth of help, promotion
and role models for others they have provided in all their years in
Winston County.

2012 Industry of the Year
Rev. Mike Dowd presented the industry of the Year Award with the
greatest number of new hires to Taylor Machine Works. Taylor Machine
Works hired 72 new employees in 2012 and added a brighter economic
outlook for the community. (A more detailed article will appear in

2012 Man of the Year Award
Joseph McCain of The Winston County Journal presented the Man of the
Year of award to Louisville Mayor Will Hill. Hill was recognized for
the plans and ideas that have helped move Louisville forward and made
improvements through out the community. (A more detailed article will

2012 Woman of the Year Award
DeLaine Woodruff of the Pilot Club presented the Woman of the Year
Award to Chancery Clerk Julie Cunningham. Cunningham was recognized
for her work with Relay for Life fundraising, and her vision in the
role as chancery clerk to improve the office. (A more detailed

2012 Retailer of the Year Award
The 2012 Chamber Retailer of the Year Award recipient was Elizabeth
and Aaron Johnson with their business The Framin’ Shoppe and Uptown
Lilly. The award goes to a retail chamber member who goes above and
beyond to help grow business in the community and work with the
chamber to promote business and events. Phil Harrison 2013 Chamber
president and WLSM owner presented the award.

2012 Forestry Award
Mike Skipper of the Winston County Extension office warded the 2012
Forestry Award to Tommy Boydstun. Boydstun earned the award for his
care and recognition of the natural resources of trees available in

2012 Farmer of the Year Award
Skipper also awarded Farmer of the Year to Deana French. French was
recognized for her care and raising of chickens in the area. (A more

2012 Service Award
For the second year in a row a Service Award was presented. The
winner was Lake Tiak O’Khata for the tourism it brings to the area as
well as the way it upholds its customer service. (A more detailed
