STAR Student and Teacher named at Grace Christian

Holly J. Borntrager has been named as a STAR (Student-Teacher
Achievement Recognition) Student for the 2012-2013 school year by the
Mississippi Economic Council’s M.B. Swayze Educational Foundation,
sponsor of the STAR program.

STAR students are selected on the basis of academic excellence. Both
American College Test scores and scholastic averages are compared to
determine the school’s STAR Student.

Holly is the daughter of Bethany and Kedric Borntrager of Macon. She
will be attending East Mississippi Community College, majoring in
Elementary education. Holly will continue her studies at the
Mississippi University for Women. Holly is the Valedictorian for the
Class of 2013; she has been involved in many aspects of Grace
Christian School throughout her years there. These include Beta
Club, serving as Secretary her junior year and President her senior
year; Student Council, serving as class representative for 3 years;
and Yearbook Staff. She has participated in Grace’s sports program,
as well, playing softball and volleyball. Her awards include the
Timothy Award, Academic Honors, and several academic awards for
Algebra, Science, English, Bible, Government and History. She has
also received Softball Defensive Awards. Holly has been selected by
ACSI for the Distinguished Christian High School Student for
Academics and Athletics her Jr. Year. She has been selected to
receive the Donna Cunningham Memorial Distinguished Christian High
School Student Award her Senior Year in Academics, Leadership and
Christian Service. Holly was recognized as the DAR Good citizen by
the Nanih Waiya Chapter for 2013. Holly has received the ACT Tuition
Scholarship from EMCC.

Each STAR Student is asked to designate a STAR teacher, the teacher
who has made the greatest contribution to the student’s scholastic
achievement. Holly selected Mrs. Darlene Mittan.

Mrs. Mittan is a graduate of Bob Jones University with a BS degree in
Physical Education with endorsements in Middle School Math/Science.
She is a member of MSTA (Mississippi Science Teachers Association)
and is certified through the Association of Christian Schools
International (ACSI). She was also named STAR Teacher in 2008. She
has been teaching for 35 years, with 29 of them at Grace Christian
School.

The board, staff, and student body of Grace Christian School want to
congratulate Holly and Mrs. Mittan.
