EMA distributes Public Participation Survey

From press & staff reports

The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency is in the process of creating their MEMA District 4 Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan, and they need the public’s help with it.

Winston as well as a nine other surrounding counties are currently engaged in the planning process to become less vulnerable to natural disasters. That is why the public’s participation is important to them.

The counties, along with participating local jurisdictions and other participating partners, are now working to prepare a multi-jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan. The purpose of this plan is to identify and assess our community’s natural hazard risks and determine how to best minimize or manage those risks. Upon completion, the plan will represent a comprehensive multi-jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan for the ten-county region.

The Winston County Emergency Management Agency are providing survey questionnaires which has questions regarding disasters and hazards the public feels are relevant, as well as give their opinions on how to eliminate future risks of disasters and what they think is important.

The information provided will help them better understand the public’s hazard concerns and can lead to mitigation activities that should help lessen the impact of future hazard events. The surveys are complete with their own envelope, so they can be mailed back to the proper officials.

Surveys can be picked up at the Winston County City Clerk office or the Chancery Court office. Once it is completed, it is to be mailed back to address on the front page of the survey. You may also fax or email the survey to the fax and email address listed on the front page of the survey as well.
