Mrs. Annie L. Burt

Mrs. Annie L. Burt, 74, passed away on Friday, May 24, 2013, at her residence in Louisville, Mississippi.  Visitation will be Tuesday, May 28, 2013, from 9:00 a.m. until service time at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in Louisville.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. in the Nowell-Massey Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, May 28, 2013, with Rev. Mike Childs officiating.  Interment will follow in Flower Ridge United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Burt was born on August 23, 1938, to Oscar and Frankie Lee Brooks Trippe.  She was an avid cook who trained in restaurant management in the Gulf Coast and New Orleans areas.  She wrote and published a successful cookbook “Annie’s Country and Cajun Creations.”

She is survived by her husband, Hughes A. Burt of Louisville; her son, Oscar Andrew Hanson of Florida; and her step-son, Michael H. Burt of Mobile, Alabama. She is also survived by her sister, Jo Trippe Tyler of Covington, Louisiana; and by her granddaughter, Libby Jo Parsons.  Mrs. Burt is preceded in death by her parents; and her brothers, Wilbur “Buddy” Trippe and Danny Frank Trippe.

Serving as pallbearers will be Mike Burt, Tim Burt, Ervin Burt, Bob Paty, Hubert Hunter and Rev. Bo Mills.  Memorials may be given to Flower Ridge United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Lynda Reed, 1841 Enon Road, Louisville, MS 39339.

Mr. Balford Darnald Miller

Mr. Balford Darnald Miller, 85, died Thursday, May 23, 2013, at his home in Louisville, MS. Funeral services were held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, May 25th, at Porter Funeral Home, with Rev. Walter Simmons officiating. Interment was in Murphy Creek Baptist Cemetery. Porter Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Miller was born September 13, 1927, in Winston County, MS. He was an Army veteran of World War II, a dairy farmer, and a logger for Miller Logging. He was a member of Murphy Creek Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Joanne Bagwell Miller of Louisville; two daughters, Sheila (Albert) Palmieri, and Renee Trosper, both of Louisville; one son, Richard D. (Sue Ellen) Miller of Louisville, 7 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nannie Sue Dawkins and Henry Thomas Miller.

Pallbearers were Duane Culpepper, Donnie Hollis, Junior Stewart, Freddy Fulcher, Bobby Stewart, and Mike Eaves.

Mr. Harvey Glen Holmes

May 15, 2013

Funeral services for Mr. Harvey Glen Holmes, 75, were held at Mission Ridge M.B. Church on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at 11 a.m. Rev. James McDonald officiated. Burial at Friendship, Gholson.

A native of Preston, Mr. Holmes was a laborer. Mr. Holmes died on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at Mississippi Care Center in Dekalb.

Survivors include sister, Annie Langford of Omaha, NE; brothers, Robert of Oklahoma City, OK, Willie, Daniel, all of Omaha, NE, and James of Preston.

Beck Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

 

Mrs. Mary Horton Huntley

Mrs. Mary Horton Huntley, 89, went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, May 23, 2013, at her home in Louisville. Funeral services were held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, May 26th, at Campground United Methodist Church, with Rev. Larry Haggard officiating. Interment was in Campground Methodist Cemetery. Porter Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Huntley was born February 9, 1924, in Pascagoula, MS, to Mabel Scott Horton and William Edgar Horton. She is survived by two daughters, Martha Fleming of Louisville, and Brenda (Paul) Petro of Mandeville, LA; two sons, William Dean Huntley, Sr, and Jimmy C. (Diane) Huntley, both of Louisville; a sister, Patricia Horton of Iuka, MS; a brother, Gary Horton of Columbus, MS; nine grandchildren, Angela Gohring, Lee Fleming, Michael Huntley, Dean Huntley, Jr, Clark Huntley, Justin Huntley, Michelle Brown, Kristina and Michael Petro; fifteen great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 67 years, C. C. Huntley, Jr., and her parents, Mabel and Edgar Horton.

Mary was a generous and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. For 8 ½ years she and her husband, C. C., owned and operated Huntley’s Grocery. She stated those were some of the happiest times of her life because she loved greeting her customers, talking with friends, and forging new friendships with everyone who entered the store. She enjoyed singing, cooking, dancing, and fishing. One of her greatest pleasures in life was cooking meals for her family, friends, and shut-ins. She had a delightful sense of humor and loved to talk and make others happy. Her joy was contagious because you always felt much better after a conversation with her. If you ever had a problem, she would always listen, offer her wisdom, and support you in any way she could. She was loved by her family and many friends, and will be greatly missed by all.

Pallbearers were Dean Huntley, Jr., Lee Fleming, Michael Huntley, Justin Huntley, Clark Huntley, and Brent Gohring.
