Stewart Gully annual Reunion held with good attendance

Submitted

The Stewart and Gully families met and celebrated the July 4th activities. This gathering has been happening for several years now, and it increases each year. Family members from Texas and Clinton, MS start moving in several days before the fourth. Therefore, the festivities begin early and last until the July 4th climax.

Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Gully are the steering committee for this and everyone else just joins in and helps to do whatever is needed. J.W. and Zelda and their children, Kevin and family, Kyle and family, and Bridget and family also bring their motor coaches to Lake Tiak O’Khata R.V. Parking lots. J.W., Zelda, Bridget and her husband John also have apartments at the Lake.

Sisters Dixie and husband and Brenda and her husband and Tammie and her husband James bring their motor homes. They all park in close proximity, and they all have cookouts there and are joined by locals. However, the “big party” is always on July 4th. We all gather on the properties of J.W., Zelda, and Donnie and DeLaine Woodruff on McCullough Road.

The Gully families represented were: The Jane Gully Perkins family, the Charles Gully family, the John Henry Gully family, the Jimmy Gully family, Arthur Stewart and family, and of course, the J.W. Gully family.

J.W. usually hires and band to come and entertain, so naturally there is “a whole-a-shaking going on”.

There is a session of photo taking which includes each family. It is surprising how everyone changes from year to year.

Approximately 150 people were in attendance.

The weather was unusually cool, which was most welcomed.

The children ran and played kickball and other games.

Brother Frank Stewart offered the blessing and after a sumptuous meal, everyone visited and enjoyed the music until around 11:00pm. By this time, it was time to gather up and head for home.

Our families are so blessed and we thank God for our freedom and the special times we spend with each other. Our prayer always is that everyone will return home safely and thankfully, they did.

A great time was had by all. Thanks to all who made our time together so special.
