Maybe they should be renamed the Nanih Waiya Lady ‘Road’ Warriors. After opening the 2013 slow-pitch season in Louisville at the Winston County Classic on Saturday, the Lady Warriors began a four-game road trip on Tuesday night in Kosciusko that won’t end until NW plays its first home game in early September.

Nanih Waiya opened its season with a 14-3 loss to Louisville in the Winston County Classic, before coming back later in the day to take a 12-2 win over arch rival Noxapater. Nanih Waiya then dropped a 4-1 decision to class 4A Kosciusko.

The Lady Warriors are set to return to action on Thursday when they visit East Webster. Next week NW travels to Leake Central on Monday and Eupora on Thursday, Aug. 29. The first home game of the season for Nanih Waiya will be Tuesday, Sept. 3 when the Lady Warriors host Eupora.

Nanih Waiya made a few errors to give Kosy the early lead on Monday, but held its ground as the game moved on. Reagan Holdiness scored the only run for the Lady Warriors, crossing the plate in the top of the fifth inning.

No individual hitters were reported for any of the first three games.

“We had several strong hits, but couldn’t seem to find the gaps,” said NW head coach Courtnee Graham. “The Lady Whippets’ gloves were in all the right places.”
