Hunting seasons at Sam D. Hamilton Noxubee Wildlife Refuge announced

Sam D. Hamilton Noxubee National Wildlife Refuge will be moving to a 100% web based permitting and quota hunt draw system. Beginning September 1, 2013, all interested parties may visit the refuge’s website at http://www.fws.gov/noxubee/ for a link to obtain all permit applications for deer and waterfowl or visit the Refuge Visitor Center. Deer and Waterfowl Quota Hunt applications will need to be completed on line and fee paid by credit card, a checking or savings account withdrawal, or mailing a money order. Only one application per deer or waterfowl hunter will be accepted and all application fees are non-refundable. Permits are nontransferable and all signature blocks must be signed and permit in possession of the sportsman at all times while hunting. Successful applicants will be notified by email or mail. Requirements for fishing and hunting of squirrel, turkey, rabbit, quail, woodcock, raccoon and opossum remain unchanged and requires sportsman to have the signed Hunting, Fishing and Public Use brochure that is available for free at the Refuge Visitor Center or downloaded from the website.

This year’s Waterfowl Hunt will be held in GTR #2 and hunters are encouraged to explore the area before the season. Waterfowl applications must be submitted by October 25. Selected applicants will be allowed to hunt with no more than two companions until 12 noon on the specified hunt day. Non-toxic shot is required of all waterfowl hunters but all hunters are encouraged to also use non-toxic shot on all areas of the refuge. A refuge-wide non-toxic shot requirement will become mandatory starting with the 2014-2015 hunting season. Please see the Refuge Brochure for information and a complete listing of regulations.
