Lady Tigers set for key district contest

The Lady Tigers of Noxapater High School can clinch a spot in the MHSAA Class 1A Slow-Pitch State Playoffs with a win at West Lowndes on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

Noxapater dropped a 12-2 decision to Nanih Waiya last Thursday to fall to 1-1 in league play, but can earn at least the No. 2 spot in the three-team region with a win at West Lowndes. Noxapater defeated West Lowndes 14-4 last week.

The Tigers fell to Leake Central 12-1 in a non-league game on Monday. After facing West Lowndes on Thursday, the Lady Tigers will take part in the East Webster Tournament on Oct. 5 where they will play Vardaman at 10:15 a.m. and French Camp at 11:30 a.m.

Noxapater wraps up district play at home against Nanih Waiya on Oct. 7, but will then travel to East Oktibbeha the following day for a doubleheader. The Lady Tigers will close out their regular season schedule by hosting Louisville on Oct. 10.

Madelyn Wilkes, Anna Claire Webb, Kyria Carter, Brianna Barnett and Emily Mills each had hits for Noxapater against Nanih Waiya. Treasure Lynch lashed a triple and single for the Lady Tigers against Leake Central, while Brianna Barnett had two singles, Kiera Philips popped a triple and Wilkes and Hanna Hamilton each had a single.
