Three standout football players from Winston County have been chosen to play in a pair of prestigious high school all-star football games in December.

Quarterback Wyatt Roberts and linebacker Jeremy Sangster of Louisville High School were chosen as part of a 42-man squad that will represent the entire state in the Mississippi-Alabama All-Star Classic to be played in Montgomery, Ala., on Dec. 14, while Noxapater wide receiver Justin Robertson was chosen to play for the South team in the 2013 Bernard Blackwell All-Star Football Game to be played in Gulfport on Dec. 21.

“That is a great honor for them,” LHS head coach M.C. Miller said of Sangster and Roberts being selected. “I think this is the first time in a long time Louisville has had two players be chosen for the game. I think they will go and represent us well.

“They are two good people who are both good leaders and smart kids,” he said. “They both come from good families. You are not going to have to worry about them.”

He said Roberts being selected to play quarterback for Mississippi in the game was a particularly good achievement.

“That lets you know that he is one of the best quarterbacks in Mississippi,” Miller said. “He will do a great job.” Also chosen to play quarterback for the team was Thad Miller of Gulfport.

Noxapater head coach Justin Hunter says being chosen for the Bernard Blackwell All-Star game could give Robertson some attention he richly deserves.

“It’s a really big deal in my eyes,” Hunter said of his senior wide out’s selection for the game. “He is getting some junior college interest (for next year), but I think this all-star game — once the coaches see his work ethic and his ability — is going to spark a little more interest in him.”

Hunter said the 5-foot-9, 170-pound Robertson is the type player coaches love to have on their team.

“He does not have a bad day at practice,” Hunter said. “He is a workhorse and just has the mentality that you want to coach. He is a yes sir and no sir type person and has never been disrespectful in the classroom or on the field. But when those lights come on on Friday night’s he has a defensive man’s football mentality — he wants to go out there and hit somebody.”
