Veterans saluted on the ground and in the air

Winston Countains turned out Monday, Nov. 11 to help honor local veterans along with recognize the city of Louisville and Lions Club for placing flags on the Hwy 15 and 25 bypass.

The patriotic celebration featured the award winning Louisville High School band, Louisville Mayor Will Hill, State Senator Giles Ward, Rev. Mike Dowd, Tracy McCully, Staff Sergeant Wilbert Holmes and the Meridian’s L-17 formation flying team.

Mayor Hill welcomed the crowd and recognized the veterans for their service and sacrifice. Hill also thanked all the persons, and businesses that helped make the event possible.

State senator Ward also thanked the veterans and recognized the Lions Club for their efforts to place the flags on the bypass for three holidays a year: Veteran’s Day, Memorial Day and 4th of July.

The ceremony ended with a flyover by the Meridian’s L-17 formation flying team.
