DAR holds October meeting

Regent Paula Fulton called the meeting to order on Oct. 24, 2013.The DAR Ritual was led by Chaplain, Brenda Hunt.

Annie Pearl Matthews gave the National Defense Report which was informed the members about tornado readiness. The secretary, Mary Tabor read the minutes . A treasurer’s report was given.

Judy McLeod, chairman of the Flag of the United States Committee reported that the money that was taken up at our last meeting was enough to buy flags to go around two poles on the Bypass for Veteran’s Day.

The Registrar’s report was given by Janis Tabor. The Indian Minute was read by Deanie Graves. Junie Fuller, Celebrating America Chairman, encouraged all members to note their volunteer hours so it could be sent in to National DAR. Sarah Garrigues, Veterans’ Chairman, asked members to attend the Veteran’s Day Parade on November 2 and also to attend the Fly Over Celebration on the bypass on Veteran’s Day.

The program was given by Mrs. Hellen Polk of Starkville ‘s Hic-A-Sha-Ba-Ha Chapter. She gave an informative power point program entitled American Women’s Fashions, 1760-1925, tracing the history of American women’s fashion through some highlights from the DAR Museum’s collection.

Hostesses for the next meeting will be Mary Tabor and Brenda Hunt. The meeting will be Nov. 21 at Market Café at 11:30. The program will be brought to us by Annie Pearl Matthews. She be speaking on Choctaw Indians and bringing many of her own artifacts.
