Ex-Wildcat named offensive MVP at USM

Former Louisville High School football standout Markese Triplett recently received a pair of big honors from the University of Southern Mississippi.

The senior wide receiver received the Brett Favre Offensive MVP award handed out by the team and along with Dylan Reda, Bruce Johnson and Khyri Thornton received the Reggie Collier Team Captains Award.

Triplett was second on the team in receptions this season with 33 catches and led the team in receiving yardage with 558 for an average of 16.9 yards per catch. He also had four touchdown receptions.

The awards were handed out during an hour-long program on Sunday as the USM football team said goodbye to its senior class of 2013.

Other awards and the recipients were: Sammy Winder Scout Team Players of the Year — Draper Riley, Jacorius Cotton and Justin Abston; Willie Heidelberg ‘Unsung Hero’ Award — Alex Smith; P.W. Underwood Toughness Award — Reda; Austin Davis Freshman of the Year Award — Nick Mullens; Ray Guys Special Teams MVP — David Bertucci; Adalius Thomas Defensive MVP — Michael Smith; and Jeff Bower Team MVP — Thornton.
