The Lady Tigers of Noxapater High School took a pair of close wins to take home the girls championship trophy at the Sebastopol Invitational last week. Noxapater took a 51-48 win over Philadelphia on Friday in the semifinals and then backed that up with a 37-31 victory over host Sebastopol on Saturday.
“We just had a great defensive effort,” said Noxapater head girls coach Pam Winstead.
Kiera Phillips and Brittany Triplett scored 15 points each to lead Noxapater in the win over Philly, while Hanna Hamilton scored 12, Breanna Glass seven and Treasure Lynch two.
Glass scored 17 for the Lady Tigers against Sebastopol, while Triplett and Lynch scored seven each, Hamilton hit for four and Phillips added two.
The Noxapater boys and girls are set to return to action on Friday when they travel to Ackerman to take on Choctaw County High School. The Lady Tigers and Tigers will then take on Eupora in the Louisville Classic on Saturday at 1:30 and 3 p.m.
The Noxapater Tigers have gotten off to an 0-3 start on the season, dropping their season opener to J.Z. George 36-32 on Tuesday before falling to Philadelphia 61-51 and Mize 36-33 in the Sebastopol Tournament.
Trevara Miller scored 15 points and had seven rebounds for Noxapater against J.Z. George, while Tylon Brantley chipped in with six points.
Miller had 21 points and six boards against Philadelphia, while Vonte Woods scored 17 and Justin Robertson had eight points and eight rebounds. Dominique Corbitt pulled down six boards in the game for the Tigers.
No individual scorers were available for the Mize game.
