Winston Academy set to play in Kirk Invitational

The Winston Academy boys and girls basketball teams are set to play three games each in the Kirk Invitational Tournament being played in Grenada this Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Action for the Pats and Lady Pats tips off on Thursday with the WA girls and DeSoto School playing at 1 p.m., followed by the boys game at 2:15 p.m. Friday’s action has the Winston and Carroll Academy girls playing at 10:30 a.m. followed by the boys game at 11:45 a.m., while the WA and North Delta girls and boys play at 3:30 p.m. and 4:45 p.m. on Saturday.

The Winston Academy Lady Patriots took part in the Magnolia Heights Classic Dec. 26-28, but no results were reported by press time.

The WA Patriots recently lost to Manchester Academy 56-46 on Dec. 19 and Leake Academy 75-41 on Dec. 21.

The Pats trailed Manchester by four points at the half before the visiting Mavericks stretched their lead out to 10 points after three quarters of play. Brock Baker led WA with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Logan Webb scored 15 points.

The Winston boys actually led Leake 19-9 after one quarter, before the Rebels scored 30 points in the second quarter and 23 in the third to pick up the win.

Baker led WA with 17 points and seven rebounds, while Carter Lane Jones scored eight points and Miles Johnson had four points and 11 rebounds.
