With last week’s win over a highly ranked Bogue Chitto team, the Nanih Waiya Lady Warriors positioned themselves for a second round playoff series against the Stringer Red Devils. The first game of the series was played at Nanih Waiya on May 4 in front of an excited crowd of Lady Warrior fans out to show their support. On the mound for the Lady Warriors would be Ryan Holdiness, who would over the course of the game wreak havoc on the Lady Red Devil batters. The first inning would see both teams earn a run, making the scored tied 1-1 going into the second inning. Neither team would score in the second inning. In the bottom of the third inning, the Lady Warriors would score two more runs to take a 3-1 going into the fourth inning. The fourth and fifth inning would turn into a pitchers’ dual, as neither team would manage to score any runs during this period. The bottom of the sixth inning would be the clincher for the Lady Warriors as they went on to put up three more runs to extend their lead to 6-1 going into the final inning of the game. In the final inning, Holdiness would go on to finish off the side of Stringer batters to end the game with the final score of 6-1. Holdiness, who pitched a solid game, only gave up one run and five hits to go with six strikeouts for the game. Coming up with hits for the Lady Warriors in this win were Bridget Hunt (1 RBI), Kara Nowell (1 RBI), Laken Fulcher (2 RBI’s), Reagan Holdiness (triple), Madison Holdiness (single), Megan Robinson (single), and Brooke Richardson (single). With a one game lead in the series, the Lady Warriors would travel to Stringer for their second game on May 5. The game would start off in a similar fashion as the first game, with the score tied 1-1 after the first inning. In the top of the second inning, the Lady Warriors would score another run to take a 2-1 lead. Another run in the third inning would give the Lady Warriors a 3-1 lead. The fourth and fifth inning would see no runs scored for either team. The sixth inning would again prove critical for the Lady Red Devils, as the Lady Warriors would put an emphasis on the game with four runs in the inning alone. The lead would prove to be too much for Stringer, as Nanih Waiya went on to win the game 7-1 and clinching the overall series. Holdiness, who was on the mound for the Warriors again, had another dominance performance as she gave up only one run and two hits during the entire game. She also threw for six strikeouts and left the Lady Red Devils batters in the dust. Up next for the Lady Warriors will be their third round playoff series against Natchez Cathedral. The first game of the series will be played at Nanih Waiya on May 10 at 5 p.m. The second game of the series will take place at Cathedral on May 12 at 3 p.m. If a third game is necessary, it will take place that same day following the second game.
