Hi I am Madison Barnett, intern at the Winston County Journal. I am the daughter of Apryl Triplett, Shirley and Jerry Barnett.
I am from Noxapater, MS and graduated from Noxapater Attendance Center, Class of 2013. Currently, I am a sophomore at East Central Community College. My major is Liberal Arts with a concentration of Physical Therapy but I wanted to try Journalism out because I have always had an urge to write. At ECCC, I participate in WO-HE-LO (Yearbook), TOM-TOM (Newspaper), and SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions).
Recently I was named Editor of the TOM-TOM Student Newspaper at East Central. Working with Winston County Journal has taught me a lot to help with being Editor. I hope to learn more about how the newspaper works while working here at the Journal. Hopefully someday I can be the Editor of a huge newspaper.
After graduating from East Central, I plan to attend Southern Miss University or the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, MS to begin working towards a Doctorate in Physical Therapy. While working on my Doctorate, I plan to continue working with Journalism, whether it means working at a local newspaper or school newspaper.
I would love to someday work for St. Jude, Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital or the Baptist Memorial Hospital; mainly working with children and cancer patients. In whatever I do, I want to always help people!
It is a pleasure getting to work as an intern for the Winston County Journal, and I would definitely encourage anyone who is majoring in Journalism, Public Relations, etc. to take time out of their summer to work here! It is a great experience so far.
The Mississippi Press Association helps fund an 11-week internship with the Winston County Journal.
