Common Core State Standards discussion January 16

A Common Core State Standards discussion is set for January 16. Common Core educational tools apply to Kindergarten through High School.

The presenter will be Penny Hill, Curriculum/Common Core Director, Louisville Municipal School District.

The program is set for January 16, 2014 in the Mississippi State University Extension Service at 460 Vance Street. The program begins at 6 pm and is sponsored by the NAACP Education Committee.

The Bible Study Jan. 16

The Holy Ghost Temple Church will be having Bible Study each Thursday, beginning January 16, 2014 at 12:00 noon until 1:30 p.m

Noxubee Refuge meeting Jan. 16

The Friends of Noxubee Refuge will have a membership meeting on Thursday January 16 at 6:30 in the Refuge Visitor Center. Dr. Jeff Harris will discuss the state of bee keeping in Mississippi and the US. The meeting is open to the public and there is no charge. Light refreshments and a social time follows the meeting.

Family Center Parent Workshops Jan. 16

January is “Common Core Standards” month at the Family Center.  The workshops will inform parents about the new curriculum and how the program is being implemented and assessed in the classrooms.  Mrs. Penny Hill, our Curriculum Director. for the Louisville High School District will provide valuable information on our new “Common Core Standards”.

MLK parade Jan. 18

Winston County Branch NAACP will celebrate the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday on Saturday, January 18, 2014. This year’s program will take place at Still Valley M. B. Church, 142 Armstrong Street.

There will be a parade through the City of Louisvile. Parade entry fee is $5.00. The parade will start promptly at 10:00, with line up at 9:00. The speaker is Jackson State Professor C. Leigh McInnis

Fantabulous Me National Pageant

Jan. 18

The Fantabulous Me National Pageant will be held Saturday, January 18 at the Choctaw County High School at the Ty Cobb Complex Auditorium – 599 East Church Street – Ackerman. There will be 10 Divisions For Girls: Baby Miss 0-15 months, Toddler Miss 16-23 months, Teeny Miss 2-3 Years, Little Miss 4-5 Years, Young Miss 6-8 Years, Pre –Teen Miss 9-11 Years, Junior Miss 12-14 Years, Teen Miss 15-17, Miss 18 & Up Single (Never Married or Pregnant) and Ms/Mrs. (18 & Older Married, Single Or Divorced – with or without children) We reserve the right to split a group that becomes too large – we will never combine groups. We keep groups to 10 contestants and below. This pageant is for anyone with or without pageant experience! With 40 or more contestants will award our Ultimate Grand Supreme with $1000! With less than 40 contestants we will award $500 to our Ultimate Grand Supreme. This is an ALL CROWN PAGEANT!

Doors Hope support sought

Doors of Hope Center had a great ending in 2013, but we now have to look at 2014, and one of the greatest needs are funds and volunteers. They are asking individuals that have a charity mind and would like to volunteer in 2014 to come in and fill out an application. Also, be prepared for training. They will be having a meeting on Monday, January 20, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. Everyone that signs up to volunteer must be at this meeting.

MLK holiday event Jan. 20

The Ministers’ wives and women Evangelist of Winston County will sponsor a Martin Luther King Holiday celebration, January 20, 2014. The time is 10:00 a.m. until noon at the Mt. NAACP to meet Jan. 21

The Winston County Branch NAACP monthly meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at the Winston County Library. The Executive Committee will meet from 6:30 – 7:00 p.m. and the general public is invited to attend the 7:00 p.m. meeting. Please show your support by attending the public meeting. See you there!

Life Stitch program Jan. 25

The Louisville “Life is A Stitch is sponsoring a beginner workshop where you will learn the basics of knitting and crocheting. You will be taught how to read a pattern, basic stitches and how to knit or crochet a small piece!
