Changing the perception of the public library

From press reports

Kosciusko, MS, April 10, 2014- The public library has long been synonymous with books; however, the library would be better viewed as a community learning center. To emphasize the entirety of library services that Mid-Mississippi Regional Library System customers can expect, MMRLS is distributing digital library awareness signage to six of its branches including the following: Attala County Library, Carthage-Leake County Library, Durant Public Library, Walnut Grove Public Library, Winona-Montgomery County Library, and the Winston County Library.

The digital library awareness signage will contain information about all the local library resources and services, as well as the wide range of services that the MMRLS system headquarters staff provides to/for the branches and its customers.

“All 13 library branches are always bustling with activity. Most people do not realize that our librarians proctor college level exams, foster literacy during the summer months with the summer reading program and accelerated reading programs, provide computer access for job applicants, and teach one-on-one computer literacy classes” said Brandon Cain, Reference/Inter-Library Loan Coordinator.

The Mid-Mississippi Regional Library System provides services to the residents of five counties including Attala, Holmes, Leake, Montgomery, and Winston via 13 conveniently located branches.

MMRLS is also a member of the Mississippi Library Partnership which is headed by Mississippi State University. By participating with the Mississippi Library Partnership, all MMRLS library customers have access to over 2 million book titles.

By providing individuals with the resources, programming, and services to meet their research, informational, leisure, and cultural needs, the Mid-Mississippi Regional Library System strives to meet the demands of its service area.
