The Winston County Sheriff’s Department and EMS personnel were called to a home near Crystal Ridge on Saturday, June 29.
A 2-year old child who was unreponsive to medical treatment was transported from the scene to Winston Medical Center where the child was pronounced dead.
According to reports, the child climbed into a car and was unable to get out. After being exposed to the heat of the parked car for a period of time, the child was discovered unconscious and not breathing.
The incident occurred on a part of the Crystal Ridge Reservation and the Winston County Sheriff’s Department turned over the investigation to Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians Police Department.
The Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians Police Department is investigating the death and had an autopsy performed Monday, July 1. Results were not release at press time.
