Class time

Miss Nan Hartness from the MUW Culinary Arts Institute visited the Culinary Arts program at the WLCTC recently. She demonstrated basic knife skills which resulted in a delicious potato soup! Nan started her culinary training at East Central Community College in the Culinary Arts Technology program. After successful completion she then transferred to the ‘W’ and will graduate in May with a Bachelor of Science in Culinary Arts. Nan is unsure of her future plans but is certain it will involve her love of baking. She fondly told the students stories of growing up in her grandmother’s kitchen, Mrs. Opal McBrayer, where she learned valuable cooking and life lessons. Her favorite recipe is ‘Granny O’s Caramel Cake.’ This is a secret family recipe that she would not share with us. Nan encouraged the students to go home and make the ‘Very Easy Potato Soup’ recipe, which she demonstrated in class, for their own families. This recipe may be found on the Culinary Arts blog at http://www.wlctcculinaryarts.blogspot.com.
