Fresh off his team°Øs trip to the championship round of the College World Series, Mississippi State University head baseball coach John Cohen will be in Louisville on Wednesday to speak at the local Rotary Club meeting.
The event is set to begin at noon and the cost of the meal is $9.25. Those interested in attending can contact Al Porter, Joseph McCain or any member of the Louisville Rotary Club for more information.
Also on the agenda will be Bart Gregory, who handles the color commentary for the radio broadcasts of MSU baseball and men°Øs basketball games. Gregory is a Winston County Native.
Cohen, a former Bulldog baseball standout, led MSU to its most successful year ever this past season. State won the Starkville Regional, and the Super Regional in Charlottesville, Va. To advance to the College World Series in Omaha. The Bulldogs won their first three games in the eight-team event, to earn a spot in the best-of-three Championship Series against UCLA, where they lost to the Bruins in two straight.
Cohen has led the Bulldogs to a 129-69 record over the past three seasons, including a 51-20 record in 2013. His five-year career mark at MSU is 177-131. Before taking over at his Alma Mater, Cohen coached Kentucky for five seasons where he led the Wildcats to the SEC Championship in 2006 with a 44-17 record. He was 180-112-1 during his tenure at UK, twice leading the °ÆCats to NCAA Regional°Øs.
Cohen took his first collegiate head-coaching job at Northwestern (La.) State in 1998 and posted a 146-84 record. In his 14 seasons as a head college baseball coach Cohen has an overall mark of 498-327-1.
As a player, Cohen was on four NCAA regional teams and was part of the 1990 College World Series squad. He was selected as a first-team All-SEC member as an outfielder.
