East Central Community CollegeÅfs young and injury-plagued football squad was simply no match for nationally ranked East Mississippi Community College which scored early and often in posting an easy 59-0 victory over the Warriors Thursday, Sept. 5 at Sullivan-Windham Field on the Scooba campus.
The No. 4 Lions (2-0) scored on their first play from scrimmage on quarterback Dontreal PruittÅfs 30-yard TD strike to Kameron Myers, and extended their first-quarter lead to 21-0 following Lakendric ThomasÅf one-yard run and an 18-yard return of a Warrior fumble by Lion linebacker Christian Russell.
Thomas tallied on another one-yard plunge early in the second period, which also featured PruittÅfs 19-yard TD toss to Kameron Myers and a 36-yard field goal by Drew White as time expired for halftime. White also connected on all seven PATs.
The Lions wasted little time in padding their 38-0 halftime advantage as Thomas scored his third TD on a two-yard run with 11:09 left in the third stanza.
East Mississippi tallied twice in the fourth quarter Å| first on Preston BakerÅfs four-yard scamper early in the period followed by ThomasÅfs fourth TD, a one-yard run with 9:40 remaining. Thomas finished with 96 yards.
The Warriors, who fell to 0-2 under first-year head coach Ken Karcher, were led by sophomore running back Martin Johnson who had 55 yards on 19 carries. Johnson is a product of Nanih Waiya High School.
Freshman quarterback Jacori Taylor completed three of seven passes for 39 yards. Taylor is a product of Early County High School in Blakely, Ga.
Freshman tight end Brandon Davis of Newton County High School had one grab for 20 yards and sophomore wide receiver James Clark of Laurel caught two passes for eight yards.
The Warriors host Copiah-Lincoln Community College Thursday, Sept. 12, in the MACJC South Division opener for both teams. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. at Bailey Stadium on the Decatur campus.
The defending MACJC State Champion Wolves are 2-0 following victories over Northeast (29-20) and Northwest (48-24).
