Winning ways continue for East Central Community College’s tennis squads following a pair of 8-1 victories over Holmes Community College last Wednesday on the Decatur campus.
In women’s singles, Hannah Peoples of Winston Academy defeated Anna Clair Shores, 6-0, 6-1; Alana Turner of Florence beat Johnna White, 6-0, 6-3; Amber Pierce of Leake Academy clipped Jennifer Rule, 6-1, 6-0; Nan Hartness of Winston Academy beat Katherine Woods, 6-2, 6-0; and Katlyn Patrick of Forest blitzed Sarah Walden, 6-0. 6-0. Hannah Smith of Leake Academy fell to Elizabeth Petro, 6-1, 6-3.
In women’s doubles, Turner and Pierce shutout Walden/White, 8-0; Peoples and Hartness blitzed Rule/Woods, 8-0; and the Forest team of Lauren Peterson and Kristine Jenkins held on to clip Shores/Petro, 8-6.
In men’s singles, Juan Miranda of Morton beat Devin Langham, 7-5, 6-2; Daniel Giles of Union edged Dylan Throgmorton, 5-7, 6-0 (10-8); Javon Yarbrough of Louisville defeated Rami Jamileh, 6-4, 6-4; Brandon St. Clair of Newton County blitzed Will Godfrey, 6-0, 6-0; Ethan Rigdon of Union cruised past Justin Sawyer, 6-0, 6-1; and Tanner Moore of Winston Academy posted a 6-1, 7-5 victory over John Crews.
In men’s doubles, Miranda and Giles clipped the Langham/Throgmorton team, 9-8 (7-2), and St. Clair and Rigdon blitzed Sawyer/Crews, 8-0. Yarbrough and Moore fell 9-7 to the Godfrey/Jamileh team.
ECCC squads return to action following Spring Break by hosting Northwest MS Community College Monday, March 17. Competition begins at 1 p.m. on the Decatur campus.
