Farmers’ Market holds Kick-Off Jamboree

The Winston County Farmer’s Market Committee held their Kick-Off Jamboree for the Winston County Farmer’s Market on June 19 at the soccer fields on Ball Drive.
Even with overcast skies and potential rainfall on the way, the market featured several vendors selling summer vegetables, fruits, canned and baked goods, and other products. Also on hand for this event was representatives of FEMA, who were on hand to answer anyone’s questions regarding the April 28 storms that damaged the county.

Vendors and customers enjoyed the kickoff of the annual Farmer’s market in Louisville. Louisville hosts one each Thursday and Noxapater hosts one each Saturday.

“This event is to help promote eating fresh, healthy vegetables for a healthy lifestyle,” said Jean Harper, Winston Co. Farmers’ Market Committee member. Helping to sponsor this year’s event was the Coalition for a Healthy Winston County, formerly the Diabetes Coalition.
As vendors sold their items, Tom Sellers from Montgomery, AL played his electrical keyboard and sang humorous songs for the crowd. Creating refreshments for the crowd was a chef, as well as others who provided signature recipes for all.
With the items at the Market coming from local producers, allowing for the vegetables to reach the consumer at its peak, as well as generating income for the local community.
Future markets will be at the Louisville Coliseum.
