A total of 614 physicians, dentists, nurses, allied health professionals, and graduate students in the health sciences were awarded degrees during the University of Mississippi Medical Center’s 56th Commencement May 25 at the Mississippi Coliseum in Jackson.
Chancellor Dan Jones and Dr. James Keeton, UMMC vice chancellor for health affairs and dean of the School of Medicine, presided over the ceremony in which the following degrees were conferred:
* in the School of Medicine, 107 graduates received the doctor of medicine (M.D.) degree;
* in the School of Dentistry, 39 graduates earned the doctor of dental medicine (D.M.D.) ; * in the School of Nursing, 110 graduates earned the bachelor of science in nursing (B.S.N.) degree, * in the School of Health Related Professions, 232 graduates received degrees -;
*in the School of Graduate Studies in the Health Science, 20 graduates were presented the doctorate degree
Five area students were among the graduates.
Leslie Swindle Nagel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Swindle of Noxapater and wife of Brad Nagel, received the D.P.T. A 2001 graduate of Mississippi State University, she received the M.P.T. from UMMC in 2005.
Amanda Burks Runnels, daughter of Robert and Marty Burks and wife of Matt Runnels, received the D.P.T. A 1999 graduate of the Mississippi University for Women, she received the M.P.T. from UMMC in 2001.
Kayla Brooke Adcock, daughter of Mr. Kevin Adcock and Mrs. Karen Adcock of Louisville, received the M.O.T. She is a 2009 graduate of East Central Community College.
Lindsey Kathryn Crowell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Darry Crowell of Louisville, received the B.S. in Health Informatics and Information Management.
Angel Lee Hunt, daughter of Darren and Shannon Hunt of Ackerman and Del and Sherry Estes of Louisville, received the B.S. in Radiological Science.
