Fleming completes degree at Army War College

Carlisle Barracks, Pa. – Karen Gardner Fleming was awarded the Master’s Degree of Strategies Studies by the United States Army War College in Carlisle Pa., June 6, 2014, in a formal ceremony with Vice Chief of Staff of the Army Gen. John Campbell as commencement speaker.
The one-year resident graduate program is a rigorous academic program offered by the Army’s senior school, in order to prepare graduates for responsibilities at the strategic level. The Class of 2014 included a competitively-selected cross-section of the top US Army, Navy, Marine, Air Force, Coast Guard officers, senior civilian members of U.S. national security agencies, and 77 international officers – in a student experience that anticipates the joint, interagency and multinational security community of their post-graduate career.
The Army War College program is designed to produce skilled critical thinkers and complex problem solvers in the global application of land power on behalf of the United States. The resident academic program includes studies strategic leadership, theory of war and strategy, national security policy and strategy, theater strategy and campaigning, Defense management,and regional studies, as well as the student’s strategy research project, comprehensive oral exam, national security staff rides and elective courses.
