Friends of Dean Park Inc. presents stipends to 5 college students

By Elmetra Patterson

Annually, Friends of Dean Park Inc. (FODP) provides stipends to students headed for college who usually have a full financial package for tuition, room and board and books but don’t have funds to purchase items i.e., transportation, luggage, towels, bedding, toiletries and other personal items. The term “can’t afford the scholarship” is no joke according to one FODP member.

A mission of FODP is to help provide scholarships or small stipends to students in need. This is the 4th year that the group has sought donations to allow them to provide this service. Generally, the president and vice president are aware from their involvement in partnerships with other organizations of the students that need stipends. This year the stipends are provided to: Deon Norton, enrolled at Ole Miss, Brianna McCully – Hinds Community College, Jerrica Gant – Clark Atlanta University, Carissa Hudson – East Central Community College and Cherish Triplett – The Conservatory of Recording Arts and Sciences (CRAS), Gilbert, AZ.

“We thank all of you who made a donation and to others, who would like to, please send to: Friends of Dean Park, Inc. Milton E. Dean Scholarship Fund, P. O. Box 365, Louisville, MS 39339”, Elder Richard Moncrief, president.
