The General Farmer’s Market Food Safety Training is a two hour workshop designed to teach the basics of food safety and regulations for processing foods in Mississippi. Training will cover food handling, sanitation and hygiene/health, fresh cut fruits and vegetables, temperature of sampled foods. Whether you have a business that you wish to expand, enter new market avenues, or you are just in the planning stages, the General Farmer’s Market Food Safety Training will be helpful to you. The training will be offered at several locations across the state. This training will qualify you for processing foods that can be sold in local, certified farmers’ markets in Mississippi. This training does not allow you to sell elsewhere or ship interstate. A General Farmer’s Market Food Safety Training is required for all processed food vendors that attend Mississippi Certified Farmers’ Markets. However, if you have an updated and valid ServSafe Certification from the Mississippi State Department of Health, that will suffice. (Note: The Winston County Farmers Market is not a certified market. For a list of certified markets go to Registration will begin 30 minutes before the training session. The training session will last approximately 2 hours. This training session will be free of charge but pre-registration is suggested as seating is limited.You must attend the entire class to receive your certification. A big THANK YOU!! to the 244+ folks who came out to support 15 vendors at the WINSTON COUNTY FARMERS MARKET on Thursday afternoon last week (June 21). Yes, it was HOT but the vendors and customers enjoyed friendly exchanges over fresh corn, blueberries, green beans, yellow squash, pickles, crafts, muffins, cookies, lemonade, tomatoes, blackberries – ALL LOCALLY GROWN and HANDMADE!! The Coalition for a Healthy Winston County (AKA Diabetes Coalition) is working hard to revive our local Farmers Market. Please everyone, come out and support our local farmers and craftspeople. Show our young folks that farming is not dead in Winston County. And we can fight diabetes and other diseases with our own LOCALLY GROWN food.
