According to school officials, Louisville High School football player Marcus Banks is showing some signs of improvement, a little more than a week after being seriously injured during spring practice.
LHS Director of Athletics Hilute Hudson said the community response to Banks and his family has been overwhelming since the injury occurred.
“Everyone is doing what they can to help out,” Hudson said. “We had a good turnout on Wednesday. everyone has really rallied together.”
On Wednesday evening the community gathered at R.E. Hinze Stadium on the campus of LHS to offer prayer and emotional support for Banks and his family.
The injury occurred Monday, April 21, during contact drills. Hudson said Banks was attended to immediately after going to the ground following incidental contact to the head. He was airlifted from the practice field to the University Medical Center in Jackson where is still in ICU, but listed in stable condition.
He has reportedly undergone procedures to relieve some pressure on the spine and has shown some improvement in movement in his extremities.
