Our second grade students here at Fair Elementary are competing in the Egg Bowl Reading Program sponsored by MAE (Mississippi Association of Educators). This contest is for all students in Mississippi. The Mississippi Association of Educators believes reading is the child’s key to success in school and life. That is why MAE is emphasizing reading through it’s Be a Champion and Read Contest. When each student has scored 100 on six Accelerated Reader tests, their name will be entered to win 3 free tickets to the Mississippi State/Ole Miss football game. This contest began at Fair Elementary in September and will last through the month of October. Parents, when your child brings home the list of books that they have made 100 on, please help them decide if they want to be reading for Mississippi State or Ole Miss. Then be sure they return the list signed by you to their teacher so that their name can be entered in the contest.
Fair Elementary’s library would like to thank First Baptist Church for the generous donation of books. After visiting the Boys & Girls Club and talking with students there, some members saw the need for our library to have additional books for the students. Students may now check one of these books out and take an Accelerated Reader quiz on it after reading it. These books will enable our students to have more choices to check out so that they may reach their Accelerated Reader goals. Second grade students’ goals are for each 9 weeks. The two goals that must be met are a certain number of points earned and an overall average percent correct of 80%. The points that each student must earn are set individually by their teacher. Students will get to spend their points at the end of each 9 weeks in our Accelerated Reader store if they have met both goals. Students are trying to meet their goals 3 out of 4 nine weeks so that they may go to Field Day in May. Thank you again, First Baptist Church.
Thank you to those who came out and supported our blood drive that was held on August 23rd. We had 3 units of red blood cells donated. We will be having another blood drive in the spring for anyone who wishes to donate blood. Find the Hero in you…Give blood 3 times a year!
