The Noxapater softball team used a solid 9-1 win over West Lowndes last Thursday to clinch second place in the region and earn a spot in the MHSAA Class 2A Slow-Pitch Softball playoffs that will begin on Tuesday,
The Lady Tigers, who finished second behind Nanih Waiya in the region, will travel to Ethel on Tuesday, Oct. 15 for a best-of-three series beginning at 1 p.m. If Noxapater wins that match-up, the Lady Tigers will move to the second round on Saturday, Oct. 19.
Kiera Phillips cracked a pair of homers to lead Noxapater in the win over West Lowndes, while Madelyn Wilkes and Tiffany Hornesbuger had two hits each and Treasure Lynch laced a triple. Anna Claire Web, Emily Mills and Princess Welch had a single each for the Lady Tigers.
Noxapater split a pair of games in the East Webster Tournament on Saturday, losing to Vardaman 15-0, before bouncing back to beat French Camp 13-4. Lynch, Hornesbuger and Deanna Sangster had two hits apiece in the Vardaman game, while Wilkes added a single.
Lynch mashed a homer over the fence and also connected with a triple to lead the Lady Tigers in the win over FCA.
“That was the best offensive game we have had all year,” said Noxapater head coach Jodie Duran. “We really hit the ball well.”
Wilkes mashed a double and a single for Noxapater in the win, while Webb and Hanna Hamilton had two singles each, Phillips’ tripled and Hornesbuger doubled. Picking up a single each for the winners were Kyria Carter, Mills, Sangster and Kayla Thompson.
Noxapater dropped a 24-2 decision to Nanih Waiya on Monday in a game that decided the region championship.
Lynch homered for Noxapater, while Phillips and Hornesbuger had two hits each and Webb and Sangster each added a single.
