The Lady Tigers of Noxapater High School put together one of the strongest seasons for the school in recent memory, making it all the way to the semifinals of the MHSAA Class 1A South State Tournament.
Noxapater, which hosted the South State tourney, took a 65-56 win over Bogue Chitto in the quarterfinals of the event to earn a spot in the semifinals.
“It was a big win for us,” said Noxapater head girls coach Pam Winstead. “It’s really exciting around here. We are playing pretty good at the end of the year.”
The Lady Tigers went into the semis need a win in order to be assured of a spot in the MHSAA Class 1A Girls State Tournament that will begin Friday in Jackson at the Mississippi Coliseum.
Noxapater came close to getting the big win, but fell just short, falling to McAdams 61-59.
Hannah Hamilton scored 22 points for Noxapater in the win over Bogue Chitto, while Treasure Lynch hit for 20 and Kierra Phillips scored 14.
Brittany Triplett’s 15 points led Noxapater against McAdams, while Phillips tossed in 14, Hamilton 13 and Lynch 11.
The Hinds AHS girls went on to win the South State tourney by beating McAdams 62-45.
