The Nanih Waiya Lady Warriors recently finished their regular season session as well as honored the team’s only senior player—Laken Fulcher.
The Lady Warriors played the last game of their regular season schedule against a highly-ranked and tough opponent West Lauderdale on Apr. 19 in non-division play. The day started out with the junior varsity game, in which West Lauderdale defeated the Lady Warriors 4-1 in three innings of play.
Following the junior varsity game, the Lady Warriors and fans took time out to honor their only senior player and team captain Laken Fulcher. Fulcher was presented with a poster signed by her teammates from the coaching staff, as well as being greeted by her family during the brief ceremony. It was an emotional time for Fulcher and her teammates, as they hugged and greeted each other in front of the home crowd.
After the ceremony, the varsity game took place. For the Lady Warriors in hitting, Ryan Holdiness led the way with two hits and one RBI, followed by Kara Nowell with one hit and one RBI. Megan Robinson also had one hit for the Lady Warriors.
Holdiness, who was also on the mound for the Lady Warriors, pitched the entire game, giving up only five hits and had three strikeouts as well.
In the end, the Lady Warriors pulled off what was considered an upset by defeating West Lauderdale 2-1.
The Lady Warriors, who are the No. 1 team in the Class 1A Region 5 standings, received a bye for the first round of the playoffs this season. Their second round opponent will be Bogue Chitto.
The first game of this series will take place at Bogue Chitto on Apr. 27. The second game will take place at Nanih Waiya on Apr. 28. If a third game is necessary, it will take place the same day.
The Louisville Lady Wildcats finished their regular season schedule as well as participated in their play-in round this past week.
The Lady Wildcats played their last regular season games against Kosciusko on Apr. 17 & 19 in division play. The Apr. 17 game took place at Louisville, with the Lady Wildcats handling the Lady Whippets 11-3.
The second game of the series took place in Kosciusko, however, the Lady Wildcats would have the same results. The Lady Wildcats would go on to sweep the series with a 6-3 victory over the Lady Whippets.
Up next for the Lady Wildcats was a play-in round series against Tishomingo County. The first game of the series took place in Louisville on Apr. 21. The Lady Wildcats would play hard, but would fall to the Lady Braves 16-6.
The second game of the series took place at Iuka on Apr. 23. In what was a must win game for the Lady Wildcats, they trailed most of the game and would not be able to take back the lead. The Lady Braves would go on to sweep the series with a 4-2 victory over the Lad Warriors to end their season.
The team would like to thank all the senior players for their dedication and hard work during their time as a Lady Wildcat and look forward to next year and another exciting season.
The Noxapater Lady Tigers also finished their regular season schedule and are in preparation for their play-in round series in the playoffs.
Their last game of the regular season was on the road as they traveled to Pascagoula to play Resurrection Catholic on Apr. 21. The lady Tigers would waste no time with the Lady Eagles, going on to a 17-4 win.
Up next for the Lady Tigers will be their play-in round series where they will face Natchez Cathedral. The first game of the series will be played at Natchez Cathedral on Apr. 27. The second game of the series will take place at Noxapater on Apr. 28. If a third game is necessary, it will take place the same day.
