Lady Warriors fall to J.Z. George in Mid-Mississippi event

It was a week of almosts for the Lady Warriors of Nanih Waiya High School who lost two tight basketball contests, culminating with a 38-32 defeat at the hands of J.Z. George on Saturday morning in the Mid-Mississippi Challenge hosted by Choctaw County High School.

Nanih Waiya led until the final quarter of the game, when J.Z. George used a three-pointer by Anayla Perry with 7:15 left to play to take a 23-22 lead. It was part of a nine-point run that saw the Lady Jaguars take a 26-22 lead before Nanih Waiya could counter with a pair of free throws by Ashley Thames to stop the scoring run. J.Z. George then stretched out it’s lead to as many as nine points, before the Lady Warriors hit a bucket at the buzzer to cut the final deficit to six.

Shadesha Harris scored 19 points to lead J.Z. George in the game, while Thames scored nine to lead the Lady Warriors.

The Lady Warriors held a 28-20 lead at the half against West Lowndes, only to be outscored 15-6 in the third quarter and 20-15 in the fourth to suffer a 55-49 loss. Kadejial Smith scored 22 to lead West Lowndes.

The Lady Warriors did pick up an important league win earlier in the week with a 68-62 victory over West Oktibbeha. No other information was provided on the game.

The Nanih Waiya boys lost to West Lowndes 84-46 and West Oktibbeha 78-62. No other information was made available on the boys games.
