Lady Warriors to be honored

It may be football season, but there will be a special presentation for a group of girls on Friday night before Nanih Waiya’s home game with East Oktibbeha.

At 6:25 p.m. a special presentation of their MHSAA Class 1A State Championship rings will be made to the 2013 Nanih Waiya fast-pitch softball team.

The Lady Warriors rolled through the postseason last spring, winning eight of the nine games they played, including an impressive 13-7, 15-6 sweep of West Union in the finals where Nanih Waiya showed the firepower in its bats.

NW opened the playoffs with a 9-0, 2-1 sweep of Salem, before being forced to go three games to knock off Sebastopol in the second round. The Lady Warriors won the opener 10-7, then lost 12-4 before taking a 7-4 win in the deciding third game.

The Lady Warriors then beat Bogue Chitto 3-1 and 1-0 in the South State finals, before knocking off West Union in the finals.

The three seniors on that team were Bridget Hunt, Megan Robinson and Kara Lane Nowell.
