The Winston County Library staff will be encouraging reading throughout the summer with a number of programs for young children and teens. The summer program’s registration will begin May 18. The children’s program will consist of five special dates: On June 5 the library will offer Northgate Cinema Movie Day at 2 p.m.; OnJune 12 the library will host Dorian LaChance at 3 p.m.; On June 19 the library will host The Groove Club at 2 p.m.; On June 26, the library will host the Snakeman at 2 p.m. and the children’s program will closeout July 10 at 2 p.m. with an awards day. The teen’s program will consist of: On June 4, the library will host an artist program at 2 p.m.; On June 11, the library will host a self- defense class at 3 p.m.; On June 18, the library will host a Scavenger Hunt at 8 p.m.; and on June 25, the program will wrap up with an Awards Day at 2 p.m. Prior to the summer program, the library recently held a children’s program for girls with a “Fancy Nancy Tea Party.” About 38 children attended with each child receiving a prize at the event. Julie Chase, the children’s librarian, read a Fancy Nancy book to the children while they enjoyed Fancy cupcakes. The children also decorated crowns and discussed the Fancy Nancy books. The library will host a boys program on July 21 with Dino Dig for Dudes. Attendees are encouraged to dress as paleontologists as the students learn about fossils and dig for some fossils.
