Locals take part in State Games baseball

Four athletes from Winston County had a chance to show their abilities during the baseball portion of the State Games of Mississippi played at Meridian Community College in Meridian last weekend.
Reed McCool of Winston Academy, A.J. Triplett of Louisville High School, and Peyton Jones and Isaiah Eiland of Nanih Waiya High School all played for the District 4 team that was coached by Tyler Rogers of Nanih Waiya and Justin Flake of Winston Academy.

McCool went 3-for-9 over the three games played by District 4, banging out a pair of singles and stealing a base in an 11-6 loss to District 7 on Saturday. District 4 opened the double elimination tournament with a 7-0 loss to District 7, before beating District 1 4-2 on Friday.
Jones had two singles and scored a run for District 4 in the win on Friday, while also picking up a single on Saturday. He was also 3-for-9 for the weekend.
Eiland had a double, was hit by a pitch and scored a run in Saturday’s loss.
District 8 won the tournament with a 14-4 win over District 3 in the finals.
