Despite fighting a respiratory illness for much of the week, Nanih Waiya sophomore Kenley McMullan finished 14th in the MHSAA Class 1A Cross-Country meet held at Choctaw Trails in Clinton on Saturday, to earn a spot on the Girls 1A All-State team.
McMullan finished with a time of 17:43.8 in the 4K event to lead the Lady Warriors, who finished seventh as a team with 205 points.
Myrtle won the 1A girls title with a score of 28 points, while Hickory Flat was second with 69 points and Tupelo Christian third with 70. Kitana High of Myrtle, a freshman, won the individual title with a time of 16:16.7 while sophomore Savannah Shirley of West Union was second with a 16:49.9.
Freshman Rylee Holdiness of NW was 25th with a time of 18:37.2, while sophomore Logan Fulcher posted a time of 20:07.5 to finish 50th, and senior Madison Holdiness was 53rd with a 20:13.1.
Other Lady Warriors and their times were: Ashley Thames, 22:56.1; T.J. Redhouse, 23:05.6; and Hope Thames 25:02.2.
Each team is allowed to run up to seven competitors with the fastest five scoring. A point is given for whatever place the runner finishes, with the lowest team point total winning. A perfect score is 15 points.
The top 14 finishers in each race are selected to be part of the all-state team.
