The respect coaches from across the state have for Louisville High School’s football team became obvious earlier this month when the Mississippi Association of Coaches Class 3A All-State Football Team was released.
Louisville High School’s M.C. Miller — who led the Wildcats to a perfect 16-0 record and the MHSAA Class 3A State Football Championship — was named Coach of the Year, while senior linebacker Jeremy Sangster was chosen as Defensvie Player of the Year.
But the respect for the Wildcats didn’t stop there, as nine members of the team were chosen first team all-state and three others were selected to the second team.
LHS team members making the first team were: senior wide receiver Desmond Goss, senior offensive tackle Anderson Gund, senior offensive guard Tyler Hickman, junior running back Demarcus Brooks, senior quarterback Wyatt Roberts, senior defensive end Anthony Gund, senior cornerback Nicholas Shields, senior safety Ty Hathorn, and senior punter Dalton Hudspeth.
Wildcats chosen to the second team were: junior wide receiver Dontae Jones, senior defensive tackle Shaquille Shoemaker and senior safety LeKendrick Vaughn.
Wilkinson County senior quarterback Devin Voorhies was chosen as Offensive Player of the Year.
LHS linebackers coach Tremond Miller said it was of no surprise that Sangster caught opposing coaches’ attention.
“He just has a good attitude and want sot make plays,” Miller said. “Initially we felt like he could be the best player in the state on defense and he really stepped it up and took care of x,y, and z and did the things he had to do.”
While Sangster is looking at going to junior college to play football next season, but his position coach says there are few better than the hard-hitting middle linebacker.
“I think he is a Division I player,” Tremond Miller said. “If I’m a coach, I am going to give him an offer. I don’t think there is an SEC team that has eight of them better than him. No matter where he goes, he will make an impact and he is definitely a playmaker.”
