Musician Scott McQuaig to be featured Saturday, Dec. 8 at free downtown concert

Musician Scott McQuaig will be performing in downtown Louisville in front of the courthouse from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8. The concert will follow a talent contest set for that morning starting at 10 a.m.

It has been more than twenty years since McQuaig’s self-titled album with MCA/Universal Records was released, but a new album by the Meridian musician is in final production and has been released.

His first album, recorded in Nashville and featuring legendary musicians and co-songwriters, led to several years on the road full- time. Scott achieved moderate success with his first single, “Honky Tonk Amnesia,” which reached #46 on the charts. Two more singles, “Johnny and the Dreamers” and “Old Memory,” were released on Capitol Records. Eventually, Scott decided his family needed him more than the road, so he returned home to raise his daughter and son. After his return to Mississippi, Scott remained active in music through songwriting and playing locally from time to time.

The past few years have been a great deal busier for Scott on the music front. In 2009, Scott formed a five-piece band and began performing frequently in local clubs and for special events. Playing live on a regular basis allowed him to further develop the original songs he had been working on, and he began receiving positive feedback from listeners. Requests were soon piling up from fans about getting a copy of his new music.

Friend and music legend, Chris Ethridge, strongly encouraged Scott to record one song in particular, “I’m Still Falling.” Once the decision was made to go into the studio, Scott decided to make the most of everyone’s time there and record three or four songs. Then a few more songs were added, and eventually the project evolved into an entire album of twelve original songs. Scott explains, “Once we decided to record a complete album, the goal was to have a collection of my songs that would be a good representation of what you hear when you see us live.”

The new album by Scott McQuaig titled I’m Still Falling will be released to the public November 10, 2012, with a launch party from 6:00 to 9:00pm at the Mississippi Industrial Heritage Museum located at the historic Soule Steam Feed Works in downtown Meridian. The public is invited to celebrate the release of the new album and to enjoy refreshments and live entertainment. Scott and his band, The Tomcats, will perform the album in its entirety.
