Two Winston County schools were ranked in the top 20 in MHSAA Class 1A in the Jackson Clarion-Ledger’s all-sports awards rankings that were released Sunday.
Nanih Waiya was fifth with 160.0 points, while Noxapater was 11th with 115.0. Neighboring French Camp Academy totaled 111.5 points to finish 12th in 1A, while Tupelo Christian took the tittle with 190.5 points.
All-Sports points are awarded based on finishes in the MHSAA state playoffs, with the champions receiving 25 points and runners-up 24 points, with the scale sliding all the way down to one point. The points are awarded in all 22 of the MHSAA sports that conclude with state titles. Some schools participate in more sports than others.
St. Aloysius was second in 1A with 189.5, while Sacred Heart was third with 172.5, and Greenville St. Joseph fourth with 161.0.
Madison Central won both the 6A and overall All-Sports tittle with 435.5 points. Oxford scored 376.5 points to win in 5A, Corinth won the 4A title with 294.5 points, St. Andrews’s was tops in 3A with 290.5 points and Madison St. Joseph won the 2A crown with 258.0 points.
Other area schools and their finishes are as follows: Starkville, second in 5A with 351.0 points; New Hope, eighth in 5A with 194.5 points; Neshoba Central, 20th in 5A with 126.5 points; Newton County, eighth in 4A with 181.5 points; Choctaw Central, 10th in 3A with 138.0 points; Philadelphia, 17th in 3A with 105.0 points; and Union, 12th in 2A with 113.5 points.
