100 Years Ago – August 1, 1913
LOUISVILLE: Lightning demolished the east chimney of the court house last Tuesday afternoon and also injured the roof of the building to some extent. – Mr. W. L. Horn, one of our best potato raisers, gave us a sample of his crop the other day and they are fine. – Mr. Casey, the new depot agent, and his family arrived here this week and have rooms at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Bennett.
DEATHS: The remains of Mr. Robert P. Smith were brought here on last Saturday night and interred in the Masonic Cemetery on the following morning. He died at his home in Greenwood on the 25th, in his 62nd year. He visited his sister, Mrs. W. H. Curry, here just a few weeks ago, but was in failing health at that time. Mr. Smith had made his home here in Louisville for many years before moving to the delta.
ROCKY HILL: Helen, the little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Neal Wade, died Monday night after being sick only a week. She was just over two years old.
75 Years Ago – July 29, 1938
LOUISVILLE: Born, to Mr. and Mrs. Vivian McQueen, a fine girl on the 27th inst. She has been christened Rosemary. – Mrs. J. B. Brumfield of Tylertown is visiting in the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Hughes. – Miss Mary Sue Roberts left for Nashville last week where she will attend summer school at Vanderbilt University. – Little Miss Emma Lou Miller had her tonsils removed at Dr. Harrison’s hospital in Philadelphia Wednesday and is doing nicely. She is the little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. C. Miller.
DEATHS: Funeral services were held at the Noxapater Methodist Church at 10 o’clock Monday morning for Mr. J. W. Stokes, 63, who died suddenly at the family home south of town Saturday. He had been stricken by a heart attack while in the barn. He died before the doctor arrived. – The four month old baby of Mr. and Mrs. Alvie Ming died in the Mattie Hersee hospital July 12th.
BOND: Miss Janey Beth Young was carried to Jackson Thursday, where she was operated on for appendicitis. – Mrs. Raymond Merchant of DeKalb spent last week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. G. Alewine.
NOXAPATER: Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Hodge announce the arrival of a winsome little daughter, born July 23, in the home of the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. A. Morris. – Mr. and Mrs. Lavelle Farish and children and Miss Edith Farish, all of Gafney, S. C., were guests in the past week in the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Price and family. Also visiting the Price family were Mrs. J. B. Farish and daughter Dorothy Sue of Philadelphia.
WEDDINGS: Mr. Johnnie Gresham of Gulfport and Miss Berta Bouchillon of Noxapater were married in Gulfport on July 9, and are making their home in that city. – Mr. Hal Ferrell of Clinton and Miss Addie Lee Pearson of Louisville were married in Louisville on July 20 by Judge J. O. Bennett.
VERNON: Earl and Sam Hill are visiting their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Hill and family of Ellison Ridge community, where they will attend Holly Grove revival. – Mrs. Willie Myers and son Ray were Sunday afternoon guests of Mr. and Mrs. Vance Bateman of Calhoun community.
