From staff and press reports
Head softball coach Casey Charles announced eight new signees that will become members of the Delta State University Lady Statesmen Softball team in 2013-14.
Each of the players signed during the early signing period, which wrapped up on Wednesday, Nov. 21.
Charles and her staff signed seven high school prospects and one junior college transfer.
“We are extremely excited about the addition of these eight players to our softball program. Our focus was directed toward getting mainly younger players that would fill our needs of pitchers and infielders. We feel like we have accomplished that in a big way.
These young ladies will have the opportunity to make an immediate impact at DSU and in the Gulf South Conference.”
Kara Lane Nowell, Sr., a senior at Nanih Waiya was one of the signees. Nowell is an infield and utility player on the roster.
“This is the best fit for me,” said Nowell.
Kara Nowell’s mother, Michelle Nowell, noted that “Kara has played travel softball since she was seven.”
Kara Nowell has also played 4 years with the MS Elite and 1 Year with MS motion along with the Nanih Waiya team.
“She has traveled across the country playing softball,” added her mother.
The Lady Statesmen open the 2013 season at the UAH Charger Chillout on Friday, Feb. 15 in Decatur, Ala.
