The town of Noxapater has released the list of candidates for the June 6 general election.
All five aldermen are seeking re-election without any opponents which means all will serve another four-year term. The aldermen are: Chris Wells, Lana Deese, Tommy Bartholomew, Brian Burrage, and Robert Wall.
Noxapater Mayor Sammy Carter will face Sharon Strickland in the election.
City of Louisville
The primary election of the Mayor and Board of Aldermen for the City of Louisville will be held Tuesday, May 2, with any run-offs scheduled for May 16. All candidates have qualified on the Democratic ticket.
Polls will be open 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the following locations: Ward 1, Louisville Coliseum, 201 Ivy Avenue; Ward 2, Old National Guard Armory, 503 Pontotoc Street; Ward 3, Voting Building at Lovorn Tractor Company, 713 East John C. Stennis Drive; and Ward 4, Louisville Housing Authority Community Center, 605 West Main Street, Louisville. A map is posted at City Hall so you can see what ward you should vote in.
Incumbent Mayor Will Hill is unopposed, and has served as Mayor since 2009. Due to a change in state law, the position of City Clerk will no longer be an elected position.
The other candidates on this ballot are as follows: Ward 1 Alderman: Beth Warner Chandler, Richard L. Hunt, Glenda G. Johnson, and Drew Massey. Ward 2 Alderman: Judy H. McLeod. Ward 3 Alderman: Gwenita Mays and Stacy Thames. Ward 4 Alderman: Eugene Crosby and Charlie Miller. Incumbent Alderman At Large, Frances S. Ball will face challengers Thomas A. “Mike” Dowd, Gerald Hayes, and Liscelle Smyth.
All registered voters in the City of Louisville are encouraged to vote. The City Hall will be open on Saturday, April 1, to register voters from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. A mail-in form is available online from the Secretary of State’s website www.sos.ms.gov and the deadline to register to vote in the May 2 election is April 1st.
The City Hall will be open on April 22 and April 29 for absentee voting. Call or come by the City Hall before the deadline if you need to request an application for an absentee ballot.
